53 Years In The Making

In early August, the front page article of the White Rock neighborsgo section of The Dallas Morning News featured a story about 97-year-old Raymond Ogas of Vickery Place. In the article, Mr. Ogas stated that he had lived in the same house that he bought from Ebby Halliday herself back in 1956.

Ebby read the article and wanted to follow up with her past client.

Last Saturday, Ebby, 98, and Mr. Ogas were reunited. They traded stories and shared a glass of lemonade on on the front porch of the home Ebby sold him 53 years ago.

You can read more about their meeting here or see a slideshow below.

Dinner With Dallas Legends Benefits JDRF Dallas

In May, one of the top auction items at the Juvenile Diabetes Reserch Foundation’s (JDRF) Dream Gala was a “Dinner with Dallas Legends” which was billed as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience for an intimate dinner with international business and philanthropic legends T. Boone Pickens, Ebby Halliday and Roger Staubach. (All three are also Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans honorees.)

The dinner was purchased by John & Sharyl Weber, who were also the 2009 Dream Gala Family Honorees and Brian & Wendy Hatfield.

Last month, the dinner took place at renowned Fearing’s restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton with chef Dean Fearing himself overseeing each course. The group enjoyed great conversation, great food and all for a great cause. The highlight of the evening was Peggy Hatfield (Brian’s mother) fulfilling her dream of meeting one of her favorite football players of all time, Roger Staubach. (She also sat by him at dinner.)

Pictured above are Madeleine & Boone Pickens, Peggy Hatfield, Wendy & Brian Hatfield, Ebby, Roger & Marianne Staubach and Dean Fearing. Pictured below are John & Sharyl Weber with Boone & Madeleine Pickens.

Ebby s John C. Weber Speaks at 2009 REAL Trends Innovation Conference

This morning, Ebby Associate John C. Weber of the Hickman + Weber Group served on a top agent panel discussion, What Do Agents Value in a Brokerage Firm Today? , at the 2009 REAL Trends Innovation Conference. John cited reputation, education and training as the reasons he chose Ebby Halliday and said he remains with the company for those same reasons as well as the support at both the office and corporate level.

We have a dynamic office environment I love the ability to share knowledge and even to gain business from being in our office. In fact, that s how I got my very first lead when I started in the business one of our top producers at the time had both sides of a transaction and approached me in the office to represent the buyer. I did and that lead actually produced two additional transactions via referrals.

He also stated that even in this different market, the Hickman + Weber Group is on track to have their best year ever by going back to basics, making a solid business plan and following through with that plan.

Held at the beautiful Four Seasons Resort & Club in Las Colinas, the conference was attended by broker/owners, CEOs, presidents, COOs, senior managers, marketing directors and technology directors from the leading residential real estate firms, association executives, senior managers of the national real estate franchise firms, relocation companies and referral networks and mortgage and title companies.

Pictured above from this morning s closing session are Paul Boomsma, president of Luxury Portfolio Fine Property Collection and executive vice president of marketing for The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, John C. Weber and Randall Graham, vice president & director of marketing for The Ebby Halliday Companies.

Ebby s Christy-Norcross-Thomas Team Supports Cats For The Cure

When Lake Highlands volleyball team member Emily Obenhaus was diagnosed with melanoma, her teammates and her community decided to raise cancer awareness through their “Cats for the Cure” campaign and fundraiser. The team began selling pink “Cats for the Cure” t-shirts for $10 with all proceeds being donated to various cancer resesearch foundations in honor of Emily.

Ebby Associates Glen Christy, Robin Norcross and Jason Thomas were quick to jump on board by sponsoring the campaign with an initial order of 72 t-shirts. The shirts were an instant hit and the Christy-Norcross-Thomas Team placed three more orders. So far, 530 shirts have been sold which has raised more than $4,500 for the cause!

The team was on hand at a recent Lady Cats game to present checks to two cancer research organizations.

The Ebby Halliday Companies salute the efforts of the Christy-Norcross-Thomas Team and encourages everyone to keep Emily in their thoughts and prayers.

The Making of a Fall Ad

Tomorrow officially marks the first day of Fall and here’s a little something to get you in the mood. Our friends at Dr. Delphinium Designs & Events were kind enough to once again lend their creative genius to turn one of our beautiful listings into a true work of art.

This particular home is located on famed Strait Lane in Dallas’ Preston Hollow area and is listed by Ellen Terry Sales Associate Lynn Gardner Collins. The final product will appear on the cover of an upcoming magazine (we’ll keep you posted).

While the photo definitely gives you that Fall feeling, in order to meet the magazine deadline, this masterpiece was created and photographed in early September. Only Dr. D could make several hundred pumpkins appear before they were officially in season and even more impressive was how quickly they made them disappear the day after.

It was close to 100 degrees outside that day and that very evening the infamous monsoon rains began, so the timing couldn’t have been more perfect – you’ll notice in the video that the photo was actually taken as the drizzle began. Not even rain can put a damper on the amazing work of photographer Sean Gallagher.

Here’s how this year’s ad was created:

And you can see the making of last year’s ad here.

Thanks to Kelly, Charles and all our friends at Dr. Delphinium and Sean Gallagher for all your help with this project – the end result was fantastic!
