Ebby Agent and Good Samaritan Tammy McKinney Reunites with Accident Victim After Seven Years

This Christmas Eve, Tammy McKinney, Associate at the Ebby Douglas Avenue Office, received the ultimate gift. She was reunited with a woman she had helped seven years earlier during a chance encounter on a Mississippi highway.

Tammy happened upon the mangled car of Thomas and Savannah Jones just moments after their accident and helped Savannah get out of the car and cared for her until help arrived. The two spoke briefly by phone several months after the accident, but had not seen each other in person until this past Christmas Eve when they were finally reunited.

WFAA-Channel 8 was there to capture the reunion on film:

Our hats are off to Tammy McKinney for her courageous efforts!

North Texas Advertisers Prepare for Super Bowl XLV

As of right now, there are only 45 days remaining until Super Bowl XLV comes to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

And if you’ve driven on the stretch of I-30 that has been named Tom Landry Super Bowl Highway, you’ve surely noticed the Super Bowl themed messages popping up on billboards in preparation for the many visitors who will converge on the area for the February 6 festivities.

The above Ebby billboard can currently be seen on I-30 near Belt Line Road. Other Ebby Super Bowl-themed boards are located near the American Airlines Center and at the intersection of Lovers and Greenville in Dallas – be sure and look for them!

We’re proud to be an official sponsor of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee.

Is Buying a Home Still a Good Investment?

That’s a great question and one that is being asked more and more lately.

To develop your own answer, you can read several different perspectives on the topic from a recent article that appeared in The Dallas Morning News. The article features Ebby Associate Kay Weeks and here’s her answer:

“Absolutely, it is a good investment. Real estate values are cyclical. And in North Texas, home prices have fared much better than in other large metropolitan areas. It is the right time to buy a home.”

The article also features a couple who recently lost money when they sold their 6,000-square-foot home in Atlanta. But when they purchased their new home in Preston Hollow for a great price, they realized they probably made up the loss.

Ted Wilson of Residential Strategies also shares his story of selling his grandparents’ home for $120,000, which they had purchased 40 years earlier for $5,000. Not a bad investment, huh?

Ebby President & CEO Mary Frances Burleson Named Among Most Influential Leaders In Real Estate for Second Time

Everyone knows that the real estate industry is comprised of an impressive group of movers and shakers. But who exactly are the most influential leaders today?

Inman News answers that question in its recently released annual list, The Inman 100: Most Influential Leaders 2010.

The Inman 100 recognizes those power brokers, thought leaders, experts, insiders, and visionaries who influence the real estate industry with their words, actions, insight and innovations. The list is comprised of brokerage company executives, technologists, government leaders, media players, economists, online luminaries and other industry heavyweights who hold the power to move the industry forward during this prolonged period of economic hardship and uncertainty. Individuals on the list were selected after a nomination process and an Inman News editorial review.

We’re proud to report that our very own President & CEO Mary Frances Burleson has been named to the 2010 Inman 100 list. She was also included in last year’s list of notable mentions.

Feast Interruptus Ebby s Little White House Office Celebrates Home Bowl LXV Video Cheer Competition Win

By now you know that the Glee-themed video produced by Ebby’s Little White House Office won the Home Bowl LXV Video Cheer Competition. What you may not know is that in addition to bragging rights and an official trophy, one of the prizes was “an over-the-top tailgate party” to be held at the winning office.

But how does one define “over-the-top”?

We decided to take a cue from the current Feast Interruptus campaign by Tommy Hilfiger – you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about when your memory is jogged by the video below. And so our chic old-fashioned tailgate party was born – plaid covered tables, candlelight, fresh pine garlands a couple of Mini Coopers courtesy of Sewell Automotive, and attendees dressed in their best winter plaids and letter jackets. Eddie Dean’s served up an appropriate fare of brisket and grilled chicken sliders, french fries, fried pickles, Shiner Bock corn dogs, stuffed crab mushrooms and piping hot apple and peach cobblers.

Oh, and there was a very discreet 9 foot by 12 foot video screen rotating 10 feet in the air above the parking lot displaying various Ebby messages. The screen entertained the busy intersection of Preston Road and Northwest Highway from 9am yesterday morning until the trophy was presented that evening – at which time it rotated toward the party and played the winning video to the cheering crowd of staff and Associates.

And not to forget the video’s inspiration, all music played during the party was from the Glee TV show – from classic Christmas carols to Lady Gaga. In short, the corner was rockin’.

A very special thank you to Daniella Giglio and Sewell Automotive for their partnership and support.

Ebby s Young Professionals Group Brings Rachel s Challenge to Moseley Elementary

When the Ebby’s Young Professionals Group (EYP) decided to take on a community service project, they took inspiration from Ebby’s football-themed 65th Anniversary celebration and sponsorship of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee to coordinate a SLANT 45 project. SLANT 45 (Service Learning Adventures in North Texas) challenges area elementary school age children to perform 45,000 hours of community service before the big game on February 6, 2011.

And what better group of elementary school age children than those attending Moseley Elementary in South Dallas. Many of the children from Moseley will attend Ebby Halliday Elementary once it is completed for the Fall 2011 school year. To pick the project, EYP members asked the Moseley Student Council members to compile a list of ideas – the number one item on that list was to create an bully-free zone at the school. So the EYP members got to work and utilized the Ebby Halliday network to raise more than $3,000 in order to bring Rachel’s Challenge to the school for two sessions last week.

Rachel’s Challenge is named for Rachel Scott, who was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. After her death her father found six journals and a paper she had written challenging people to go out of their way to show compassion and kindness to start a chain reaction and see how far a little kindness can go. Her life has become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America.

The afternoon was as rewarding for the EYP members who attended and helped raise funds as it was for the children themselves. A very BIG thank you to Holt Barber of the Ebby Preston Plano Parkway Office for serving as the coach for this great SLANT 45 project. Holt and his wife Julie helped raise significant funds and worked to coordinate all aspects of the program.

Also a big thank you to Balfour Beatty Construction for their generous donation. Without them, this project would not have been possible!
