Ebby Halliday Companies Support the 2011 Dallas Cowboys Kickoff Luncheon Benefiting Happy Hill Farm Academy

The field at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington was the place to be this afternoon. But today, all the plays were for a great cause. For the second year in a row, Jerry’s World was filled with hundreds of luncheon tables for the annual Dallas Cowboys Kickoff Luncheon, which benefits The Dallas Cowboys Courage House at Happy Hill Farm Academy.

Happy Hill Farm Academy is a Christian boarding and day school on the fringe of the Metroplex near Granbury where boys and girls ages five to eighteen live, work and study on a 500-acre, working farm/campus. They accept no Federal or State funding, nor United Way money.

As it is every year, the luncheon was attended by the entire Dallas Cowboys team and coaching staff as well as Owner & General Manager Jerry Jones and family. In addition to the Ebby Halliday Companies, other sponsors included Flowserve, Interstate Batteries, Ford, American Airlines, Bank of America, Whole Foods and Staples.

The luncheon was attended by 8 branch office managers who were honored for their achievements so far this year: Vivian Black, Preston Keller; Terry Brion, Campbell/Coit; Becky Connatser, Dave Perry-Miller InTown; Diane Hausler, Allen; Malinda Brownlee Howell, 190@Jupiter; Terri Macaluso, Frisco; Carolyn Rosson, Southlake; and Sherry Smith, Sherman/Whitesboro.

Dallas Ranked Second Hottest Housing Market in National Survey

While Dallas is literally hot right now, and has been all summer, it’s refreshing to know that our fair city has been named hottest in another category – the second hottest housing market in a national survey!

According to The Dallas Business Journal, The Big D was ranked second in the nation for residential construction activity, right behind Houston. According to data from DBJ’s parent company, On Numbers, Dallas posted $3.87 billion worth of privately owned housing in 2010. Houston came in at $4.17 billion.

Both Lone Star State cities beat out New York City, the nation’s largest metropolitan area in terms of population, which had $3.05 billion worth of residential construction.

Where the Jobs Are: Rockwall, TX

According to CNNMoney.com, when it comes to jobs, Rockwall is rockin’.

While it’s the smallest county in Texas, in the past decade, jobs grew by 98% and the population has nearly doubled. And that’s why the Dallas suburb was recently ranked #1 on the CNNMoney.com’s list of “Where the Jobs Are”.

The article states that Rockwall is luring businesses and jobs from nearby big cities with generous incentives and a higher quality of life. One of the newest developments, Harbor Heights, is a seven-story, 110,000 square foot office tower opening next year that will house new businesses in Rockwall, which is already home to L-3 Communications and Pilgrim’s Pride.

Second Quarter 2011 Breakfast of Champions at Gremillion & Co Fine Art

Each quarter, the top Associates from each Ebby Halliday Family of Companies office for total number of homes sold is invited to a Breakfast of Champions celebration and networking event. This morning, the winning Associates for Second Quarter 2011 were honored at Gremillion & Co. Fine Art, courtesy of Arch Foundation Repair. Speaking of Arch, a special shout out and thank you to the amazing Tamera Gaede!

After browsing beautiful artwork while sipping mimosas, everyone enjoyed company updates from various department heads from the Ebby Halliday Companies corporate office, followed by an overview of the Gremillion. The highlight was a brief talk by artist Ann S. Adams about her work for the upcoming exhibition entitled Streaming. Her works are inspired by the surroundings of her garden:

“Throughout the course of a year, I am fascinated by light as it bounces and dances across the foliage and water in my garden; the environment found throughout my work. Without fail, the garden provides a myriad of opportunities to observe and reflect upon contrasts existing within the textures of layered canopies. It is in the color of the leaves, in combination with the intensity of nearby blooms I encounter my muse and inspiration.” – Ann S. Adams

Quite by coincidence, Ann ended her talk by telling the group she wasn’t just an artist, she’s also an Ebby client. “I bought my home through an Ebby Halliday agent, and I wasn’t your typical client, I think we looked at more than 80 houses! But I love my home and I love my garden, so I am an Ebby Halliday fan!”

To see photos from this morning’s Breakfast of Champions, visit the Ebby Halliday Facebook Page.

And you can see the work of Ann S. Adams at Gremillion Art Gallery during her opening reception on Saturday, September 24 from 5-7pm. For more details, visit gremillion.com.

More North Texans are Becoming Landlords

With low interest rates, an abundant inventory of homes for sale, and great prices, more and more North Texans are buying homes – as rental properties.

NBC DFW recently aired a story on this topic, which featured an interview with Claire Krieger, an Ebby Associate from the Ebby’s Little White House office. She told reporter Julie Tam that homes for lease are not staying on the market long, often leasing within weeks or even days. She also pointed out that the hottest areas for sales and leases right now are the Park Cities, Oak Lawn and North Dallas.

And according to NTREIS, the inventory of homes for lease is up 6% and the average rent is up 4% at $1,507 per month.

Retail Real Estate: H&M Debuts in North Texas Today

For all you die hard shoppers, the wait is finally over. H&M officially makes its Dallas (and Texas for that matter) debut today when it opens the doors to its new 24,000 square foot store at NorthPark Center at noon.

The opening comes just in time for this weekend’s Tax Free Shopping Weekend, and Sunday’s Ebby Halliday-sponsored raffle drawing for the 15th Annual Orix Parade of Playhouses.

For those of you seeking a deal before this weekend, H&M is offering money-saving passes to the first 500 people in line – but if you’re interested, you better high tail it to the Mother Ship – as of 10:15 this morning, NorthPark Center’s Facebook Page was reporting more than 300 people were already in line. One commenter claims their arrival at 5:45 am made them #100 in line.

As H&M will soon learn – Dallas takes shopping very seriously. If you still don’t believe us, The Dallas Morning News is reporting the Swedish retailer has big plans for the Texas debut which include street teams throughout the weekend all around Uptown, West Village and downtown Dallas, rotating images projected onto the sides of tall buildings, and H&M wrapped coach buses that will provide free transportation to the store for college students from The University of Texas at Dallas today through Sunday.

Happy Shopping, and welcome to Texas, H&M!

Strength & Resurgence in the Luxury Real Estate Market

All signs are pointing to a strong luxury real estate market, particularly for those select homes sometimes referred to as mega mansions.

Case in point – just last month, the Holmby Hills, California home built by entertainment moguls Aaron & Candy Spelling sold to 22-year-old Petra Ecclestone. “The Manor“, as it is also known, was last listed at $150 million by our fellow Luxury Portfolio International member, Hilton & Hyland.

Over on the opposite coast, our fellow Luxury Portfolio member Long & Foster recently sold “Evermay“, a 220-year-old estate that was offered for sale for the first time in 87 years. It was last listed at $25.9 million.

Locally, according to NTREIS MLS Sold Data, sales of luxury homes priced at $1 million and greater have increased by just over 5% compared to the first half of 2010 and more than 43% when compared to the first half of 2009. In addition, Dave Perry-Miller & Associates recently sold the most expensive home so far this year in Preston Hollow, which was last listed at $6.795 million.

(It’s also worth noting that this good news isn’t only for the luxury market, The Dallas Morning News recently reported that pre-owned July home sales in North Texas were up 18%, the first year-over-year increase in more than 12 months.)

So what’s the reasoning behind the recent surge in luxury home sales? A recent TODAY show segment points out three key factors:

  1. Better interest rates
  2. A more stable stock market
  3. And what some consider bargain prices

The Ebby Halliday Companies are proud to lead the luxury real estate market in North Texas, selling more luxury homes priced at $1 million and greater than any other broker. The companies are also the exclusive Dallas affiliates of Luxury Portfolio International.
