Of The Day: Red Is In, And It’s Everywhere

Well, well, well, it seems we have a trend on our hands. While perusing the new Ebby listings that hit the market today, as we do every day, we started to notice a bit of a pattern. In house after house, red kept popping up. Nothing too crazy, just hints of red here and there like little moments of cheer around the homes. It got us thinking, so we headed to our Pinterest page to see if maybe this was something we just hadn’t noticed before. Sure enough, there was red everywhere. Whether the color has been in style for years or it’s making a comeback, two things are for sure, it’s here and people are loving it. Take a look at all the creative ways people are splashing red around these homes in D-FW!

In bedrooms: 509 Carriage Trail, Rockwall, TX

In kitchens: 501 Creekside Drive, McKinney, TX

On fireplaces: 702 Colonial Drive, Garland, TX

On front doors: 109 W. Boggess Street, Saint Jo, TX

On chairs: 9905 Wood Forest, Dallas, TX

On chair backs: 6201 Equestrian Court, Colleyville, TX

In living rooms: 9801 Old Field Drive, McKinney, TX

If we put up all the fun ways people are using red in houses these days you’d be looking at pictures for days. Instead, you can head over to our Pinterest page and play a little game of I Spy with our boards. We’re thrilled to find this color making it’s way into homes, and have no doubt, we’ll be on the look out for more trends from now on! Happy Halloween, everyone! We hope you have a fun and safe night celebrating!

Of The Day: Make Your Guest Room A Getaway

Here come the holidays, ya’ll, and they’ll be here before we know it! Halloween is tomorrow, and it marks just the beginning of the holiday season. There’s a lot to do in preparation for the upcoming celebrations, but one of the most important things is to get ready for guests. If you’re playing host-with-the-most this year, you’ll want to check out some of the fabulous guest rooms we’ve found at homes around DFW that are currently on the market with Ebby. We’ve also compiled a list of tips to help you get ready and make your guest feel right at home (see them after the images below)!

2704 Picasso Place, Dallas, TX

5419 Castlewood Road, Dallas, TX

9704 Kennemer Drive, Plano, TX

1405 Cibolo Drive, Allen, TX

104 Rushcreek Drive, Wylie, TX

Beautiful, right? Can’t you imagine being a guest in one of these homes so easily?

Now for our tips:

1. Provide bedside lighting- It’s beneficial for guests who like to stay up reading and it creates great ambiance.

2. Bring in some life- Add a plant or some flowers to bring a fresh touch to the room and show your guests you care.

3. Think comfortable- Use linens that are high quality, don’t make the bed with anything less than what you’d want for yourself.

4. Accessorize- Bring in extra pillows, pretty boxes, or make it personal with picture frames. A guest room should feel like an extension of the home, not like a stale hotel.

5. Keep time in mind- Don’t forget a clock. Guests will have flights to catch, appointments to make, etc.

6. Stock up- Allow easy access to fresh towels, tissues, and blankets.

7. Reflect- Don’t forget a mirror. People like to look their best, especially when visiting others or a new city, plus it’ll bounce light around the room.

8. Stand by- Add a bedside table or nightstand so guests have an easy place to keep things they need nearby.

Thanks for joining us today on OTD. We appreciate you and your readership so very much! Happy Wednesday!

The much-anticipated Lakewood Home Festival is just days away. Mark your calendar now for November 8-10, when the 37th edition of one of the North Texas premier home festivals showcases six distinctive residences. And to sweeten the deal, proceeds benefit Lakewood-area schools.

6565 BOB O LINK DRIVE

Just this past August, CNN/Money verified what those of us in the real estate business have known for a long time, says Sherryl Wesson, manager of Ebby s Lakewood Office. Of course, Wesson is referring to Lakewood being named one of the best big-city neighborhoods in the country.

6828 AVALON

The Lakewood Home Festival is another reason our neighborhood is such a great place to call home, she says. We re really excited about this year s events.

6624 LAKEWOOD BOULEVARD

A candlelight tour on Friday, November 8, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., offers a first glimpse into the festival s homes and provides the perfect start to a weekend that includes the home tour, an auction party, and a market and café. Enjoy all six homes on Saturday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, November 10, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

7130 BROOKCOVE LANE

Ebby Lakewood Associate Kim Sinnott is the 2013 president of Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA), which organizes the Lakewood Home Festival. The Lakewood community is like no other in terms of unique, historic homes that attract visitors to this tour, family involvement in our neighborhood schools, and community businesses that invest generously in our event. That s why the Lakewood Home Festival is such a success year after year, Sinnott says, adding that more than 300 volunteers work to put on the weekend-long festival.

7169 GREENTREE

The Ebby Lakewood Office and 20 of its Associates will again sponsor the festival s marketplace, which takes place at Lakewood Elementary.

Of The Day: Dark Cabinets, Light Counters

Happy Tuesday, all. We’ve talked on OTD about kitchens before (i.e. backsplashes, natural wood cabinetry, different types of countertops, kitchen appliances, white kitchens, and the list goes on), but today we’re talking about the beautiful juxtaposition that is dark cabinetry with light-colored countertops. It’s an aesthetically pleasing marriage between dark and light that will have you ooh-ing and aah-ing about the kitchens we’ve chosen to feature today. There’s something about the richness of the cabinetry and the calming, cool colors of the countertops that just make us sigh with delight. Take a look!

1212 Steepleview Lane, McKinney, TX

3435 Gentry Road, Irving, TX

7370 May Hall Drive, Frisco, TX

2025 Saint Pierre Drive, Carrollton, TX

3317 Saint James Place, McKinney, TX

Aren’t these wonderful? A lot of times, people choose to go all dark or all light, but we’re glad there are those who step out of the box and show us more of the lovely options that are out there. Thanks for joining us today!

Highland Park Celebrates Centennial With Fun-Filled Block Party

Approximately 3,500 people gathered this past Sunday to celebrate Highland Park s 100th birthday at a festive block party along the town s spectacular Lakeside Drive. The fun-filled gathering was sponsored by three local companies with deep ties to the Park Cities: The Ebby Halliday Companies, which includes Ebby Halliday, REALTORS® and Dave Perry-Miller & Associates, Allie Beth Allman & Associates, and Plains Capital Bank.

The celebration drew a multi-generational crowd who appreciate the town s unique and lasting appeal: plentiful parks, acclaimed schools, exceptional public services, beautiful homes, and a sense of community seldom found. Entertainment spanned the ages, with a soundtrack ranging from big band to One Direction, and even an Elvis impersonator to add to the atmosphere.

Colorful streamers floated in the wind and children sketched on sidewalks with chalk, jumped in bounce houses and left handprints in concrete. Guests also enjoyed a zip line, trampolines and a rock-climbing wall.

Highland Park officials unveiled a nearly 7-foot-tall revolving chocolate birthday cake while guests sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed a blast of fireworks and confetti. Congratulations on 100 great years Highland Park! May the next 100 be as great!
