Despite the nationwide housing inventory shortage, homebuilders are not building new homes in needed quantities, according to just-released data from the National Association of Realtors.

 

New-home construction activity remained low in February, below one-year-ago levels. On a positive note, the number of housing permits rose, indicating that new-home construction will be rising a bit in the upcoming months.

 

The housing shortage in many U.S. markets is likely to persist. NAR projects homebuilders need to increase production by at least 50 percent from current levels in order to meet the demand for newly constructed homes.

 

The Bottom Line: There is little chance of home-price declines in markets where there is a shortage of housing. Rents will continue to rise.

According to Livability.com, Fort Worth’s downtown is the No. 1 downtown in the U.S., a pretty awesome accolade if you ask us. We’ve raved about the city’s development of Sundance Square and we’ve also talked about the major attraction that is the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. These two things combine to make Fort Worth an entirely unique and exciting place to visit.

 

“Few downtowns have achieved the cohesion between cowboy culture and urban sophistication that Fort Worth has to offer,” the article states. “The number of people living in downtown Fort Worth continues to grow as new developments add residential, office and retail options.”

 

Much of this growth is attributed to the leaders of the city who continue to bring in new improvement and rehabilitation projects that boost the economy, employment rate, and create a more walkable environment with less traffic congestion. There is further growth expected in relation to the Trinity River Vision Project, which includes a plan to develop 800 acres connecting downtown, the Cultural District and the Stockyards that could eventually double the size of downtown.

 

Some other noteworthy stats about the city are:

-13 parks for residents and visitors to dine and relax

-80 locally owned restaurants and bars

-The 2,056-seat Bass Performance Hall

-A population of 777,898 people

-2.6% decrease in retail vacancy between 2012 & 2013

-3.3% average income growth

-6.6% unemployment

Pecan Lodge: Get your taste of great barbecue and wine at the Pecan Lodge Brisket and Malbec Dinner at Wine Poste. From 6:15-8:15 p.m., $30 will get you 1/2lb. of brisket and 6 delicious malbec samples.

 

The Ginger Man: The Uptown bar and patio spot will debut a new beer on Thursday, March 20. Stop by from 6 to 8 p.m. to taste Spiced Orange, a Crabbie’s creation. You can also try out a Crabbie’s ginger beer float.

 

Savor Dallas: This annual wine and food festival is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this year, which means it’s just getting better. From March 20-22, experience a day at the Dallas Arboretum, an Arts District wine stroll, live music, a grand tasting, and several seminars.

 

White Rock Local Market: Find the best of local produce, meats and cheese, breads and pastries, pickles, jams, tamales and more at this wonderful farmer’s market. On the 1st and 2nd Saturdays you will also find hand made furniture, toys, clothes, soaps and more, all made by North Texans.

 

Village Kitchen and Toko V: After attempts to revamp and stay occupied, this duo in Highland Park Village will close after dinner service on March 30.

 

The Greek: There’s been a struggle for restaurants to stay in business in One Arts Plaza. Cafe des Artistes closed in December 2013 and now The Greek has close its doors after serving its final meal last Friday, March 14.

Well, it turns out CultureMap Dallas has spotted a trend of their own and it’s come just in time for spring and warmer weather. They published an article yesterday titled “The 10 best patios in Dallas to Drink and Dine outdoors.” Even though it’s supposed to rain tomorrow, this week was filled with the kind of gorgeous weather that’s perfect for taking advantage of spots just like these. Belly & Trumpet: Located on McKinney Ave. in Uptown, just a block from West Village, they have a wraparound patio and serve an assortment of small plates and wine. The environment is perfect for couples and “grown-ups” looking for a relaxing spot and great food.

 

Boxwood Tap + Grill: Located in the old TABC in State Thomas, the patio features a wall of green boxwood sprigs, a great drink selection, and plenty of picnic-style tables for mingling.

 

Canne Rosso White Rock: This family-freidnly spot near the lake offers fabulous pizza and a sprawling, spacious patio perfect for taking in the spring sun.

Nora Restaurant and Bar: The brand new rooftop is the main attraction here. You’ll get a great view of Greenville Ave. and you can cool off under Miami-style shades or warm up on a cool night by the fire pit.

 

The Rustic: Picnic tables, fire pits, a grassy hill, and live music have made The Rustic a hot-spot for all ages in Uptown. It has a great stage for any day, because it opens to guests both outside and inside, and having Pat Green as a co-founder only helps make this place a great one for sunny Saturdays.

 

Truck Yard: Back on Greenville Ave., just around the corner from Nora, Truck Yard has become a hit largely because of it’s rotating food trucks, eclectic decor, and beer selection. It has a patio, picnic tables, and you can even grab a seat in a refurbished truck bed.

 

Savor: Savor has become a fixture of Klyde Warren Park with it’s glass walls and inviting ambiance. The patio is great for taking in the activities of the park and has a great view of downtown- and the tasty food doesn’t hurt.
