DFW Weekend Round Up (10/30-11/2)

While Halloween is certainly the highlight of this weekend, we understand that not everyone indulges in this spooky holiday. So, we’re giving you options for all kinds of other activities as well as providing the best lists of Halloween events written up by other DFW experts.

Thursday, Oct. 30:

AIA Dallas Tour Of Homes: If you didn’t get a ticket to the Preservation Dallas Fall Architectural Tour last weekend, now is your chance to get a look at more of the incredible homes Dallas has to offer. This year’s tour includes nine of the most architecturally significant homes in the area, including the Peavy home near White Rock Lake that was constructed using 14 shipping containers. The premiere party is Thursday and tours take place Friday and Saturday.


Decks in the Park: Tonight marks the last night of this fun series at Klyde Warren Park. DJ’s Paradise, Souljah, Nick Van House, Willie Trimmer, and Colly T will all take the stage.


An Evening with Garrison Keillor: The NPR icon will be in Fort Worth for a rare solo performance at Bass Performance Hall.


Nick Swardson: You’ll recognize this actor/comedian from many of Adam Sandler’s films including “Grandma’s Boy” and “Just Go With It,” but he’s been a stand-up comedian for more than 20 years. Get in on the laughs at the Majestic Theatre.


Friday, Oct. 31:

Salt-n-Pepa: The Grammy Award-winning artists will perform live at The Rustic. You’ll remember them for 90’s classic hits like “Shoop,” “Push It,”Whatta Man” and more.


Slipknot: If you’re not into Halloween but you are into heavy metal, you’re in luck. They’ll take the stage for this season’s final concert at Gexa along with Korn and King 810.


Saturday, Nov. 1:

Chive Fest 2014: Country star Jake Owen is the headliner of this year’s event held at Southfork Ranch. From 1 to 11pm, jam out with the largest gathering in Dallas to date.


Hal Holbrook in Mark Twain Tonight: Each year, the Tony Award-winning actor adds and edits material in the famous show that he’s been performing across the country since 1954. Join him for a night of “funny stuff” and “serious matters” at Bass Performance Hall.


TEDxSMU: Great minds are coming to Dallas City Performance Hall for this year’s Ted lectures. The theme is “Strangely Familiar” and features music and dance, robots and big data that take you from prisons in Africa to the super-bugs in our own backyard.


All Weekend:

Autumn at the Arboretum: Pumpkins, gourds, squash, and fall flowers will cover the grounds of the Dallas Arboretum through November 26. There will also be a hay bale maze, scavenger hunts, Cinderella’s Carriage and more.
