Chalk, fireworks, tubing and a balloon festival top this weekend’s events in DFW. Get the details below:

 

 

Thursday, August 13

Evening in the Shed: Occurring every Thursday evening in the month of August, Dallas Farmer’s Market will host an Evening in the Shed. Guests will have the opportunity to shop the market for everything local, including arts and crafts, fresh produce and artisan food. Beer, wine and live music will also be in attendance. Friday, August 14

Friday Night Fireworks: Travel over to Grapevine and watch the skies light up with colorful sparks. This FREE 12-minute show is accompanied by exciting music, which is available for download here. Try to set up shop on the rooftop of the Gaylord Texan’s parking garage — it has the best view and features a DJ with plenty of music. 9:30 p.m.

 

Highland Village Balloon Festival: The 28th annual festival will feature tons of family fun the entire weekend! Aside from the hot air balloons, musical performances, food, arts and crafts, vision screenings and other festival fun are also on the agenda. 5-10 p.m. For a detailed schedule of events, click here.

 

Saturday, August 15

Dog-A-Poolooza Unleashed: Hosted by Garland Pawsibilities, the 10th annual festival of dog fun will feature a number of on-site services at Holford Pool, including dog washing, nail trimming, low-cost vaccinations and microchipping. Ever wonder what your furry friend is thinking? There’s a pet psychic for that. Guests will also have the chance to visit with rescue groups and pet supply vendors. 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

 

Architecture Walking Tour: The Dallas Arts District and Dallas Center for Architecture are hosting a 90-minute walking tour of Dallas’ urban arts district. Led by a trained tour guide, guests will examine Dallas buildings from the 1890s to the present day, including the detail, institutions and visionaries who played a roll in their creation. 10 a.m. Tickets start at $10. Chalk Art Festival: View elaborate chalk art designs by talented professional street painting artists on West 7th in Fort Worth. These works will be judged, with an award ceremony set to take place later in the evening. Be sure to check out the children’s coloring area and live music, too! 12-8 p.m.

 

Sunday, August 16

Sunday Funday: The new laid back and family-friendly summer series will take place on the banks of, and in, the Trinity River at Panther Island Pavilion. It will feature tubing, craft beer from Panther Island Brewing, paddle sports, Stand Up Paddleboard yoga, disc golf and more. FREE admission. $5 tube rentals. 12-6 p.m.

 

Salsa & Sangria Sundays: Enjoy sangria and live salsa music on Saint Ann’s patio, located in the Harwood District of downtown Dallas. 7-10 p.m.

 

August Happenings

August Dollar Days: Presented by Time Warner Cable, the Dallas Arboretum offers $1 general admission and $2 Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden admission to all guests for the month of August. There will also be $1 and $2 food and drink items, including hot dogs, juice boxes, root beer floats and more. Purchase tickets at gate only.

 

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus: It’s that time of year! The highly anticipated circus is back with its Legends production, featuring highflying action and focus on mythical creatures. For tickets and times, click here.
