Architectural Tour Features Distinctive Dilbeck Residences

Architectural Tour Features Distinctive Dilbeck Residences

Ebby Halliday Realtors is proud to be a house sponsor of the 2018 Preservation Dallas Fall Architectural Tour, which offers a look inside seven of Charles Dilbeck’s most distinctive residential projects in Dallas. With everything from Dilbeck’s ubiquitous Ranch house, to French Norman estates, to his quirky storybook cottages, the lineup promises a day of magic. The tour, which takes place Saturday, October 27, will be a showcase of rarely seen Dilbeck homes – an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

Born in 1907, Charles Dilbeck worked at an early age in Tulsa creating and adapting plans for builders. His lumberyard architect experience directed him toward displays of rough and refined woods, and handcrafted details. Dilbeck took credit for designing the first Texas ranch house and while regional houses are typically attributed to David Williams and O’Neil Ford, Dilbeck was simultaneously designing these homes with fireplaces for screened-in porches, hand-carved mantels, hammered metal work, herringbone patterned plank ceilings, oversized fireplaces and floor plans to capture the southeastern breezes in the summer. Part of Dilbeck’s genius was to create equal volume regardless of the space … small rooms with soaring ceilings and large rooms with more traditional ceiling heights.

Architectural Tour Features Distinctive Dilbeck Residences

The day will begin at the Angelika Film Center with morning refreshments and an architectural discussion highlighting Dilbeck’s life and architectural style. A second-to-none team of Dilbeck aficionados has been assembled for all tour facets, including symposium speakers Willis Winters, FAIA, and Jann Patterson Mackey, PhD., who will discuss Dilbeck’s life and work throughout the region, and on the national stage. The entire day will be filled with quirk, romance and eccentricity.

Check in for the tour begins at 8:30 a.m. with refreshments. The symposium begins at 9 a.m., and tour houses are open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees are required to check in at the Angelika Film Center. Reservations are required and non-refundable.

The general tour includes the symposium and five distinctive houses. Tickets are $40 for Preservation Dallas members and $50 for the public.

The patron-level tour includes access to an additional tour house plus an invitation to the patron party at the Walton House on Thursday, October 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. Patron-level tickets are $85 for Preservation Dallas members and $100 for the public.

Reservations are required and non-refundable.
