Tax Holiday For Energy Star

Great news for Texas homeowners looking to remodel or uprade – everything from air conditioner units to compact fluorescent light bulbs will be sold tax-free over Memorial Day weekend May 23-25. To qualify for the tax-free offer, products must be Energy Star-qualified.

According to the state comptroller’s office, the tax-free weekend includes:

• Air conditioners priced under $6,000 (both room and central units)

• Washing machines

• Ceiling fans

• Dehumidifiers

• Dishwashers

• Light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent)

• Programmable thermostats

• Refrigerators priced under $2,000.

Last night, Ebby presented Former First Lady Laura Bush with the first International Maura Award at the Women’s Museum at Fair Park. Mrs. Bush was given the award for her work as First Lady in raising the world’s attention to conditions affecting the health, education and welfare of women and children throughout the world.

Established in 1978 by the Women’s Center of Dallas, the Maura Award pays tribute to individuals for extraordinary contributions to the success and well-being of women and children in the Dallas Metroplex.

Ebby was the first and only recipient of the Lifetime Maura Award in 2007.

Ebby Companies Welcome Pam O Connor

The Ebby Halliday Companies welcomed Pam O’Connor, President & CEO of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World to Dallas on Tuesday. Ms. O’Connor spoke at the North Dallas MLS meeting at Macaroni Grill on Northwest Highway, which was hosted by Ellen Terry, Realtors. She was introduced by Lee Thomas, manager of the Ellen Terry office and Ebby Halliday who was one of the four founding members of RELO, which is now known as LeadingRE.

Ms. O’Connor spoke about various national real estate trends and focused on the luxury market with statistics from Luxury Portfolio Fine Property Collection, the luxury division of LeadingRE. Highlights of her speech included information on significant luxury properties currently for sale such as the Aaron Spelling and Leona Helmsley Estates, the sale of 27 Luxury Portfolio properties priced over $5 million in First Quarter 2009 as well as insight on the “Recession Chic” mentality of today’s value-conscious luxury consumer.

Ms. O’Connor ended the discussion with a brief overview of the rising popularity of social networking, stating that 6 out of 10 wealthy consumers online now use some form of social networking.
