You guessed it, there’s a ton of incredible fun to be had in D-FW this weekend. Concerts, craft beer, and the circus are just a few of the many wonderful events kicking off the first weekend in August!

 

311: Loyal 90’s fans rejoice, 311 is playing tonight, July 31, at South Side Ballroom to showcase their most recent album and give you a taste of nostalgia.

 

Music Thursday: This week’s feature at Klyde Warren Park is Carl Sullivan and Friends. Their songs originate from the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, so grab a spot on the lawn and prepare for a good time.

 

Steve Martin feat. Edie Brickell: Actor/musician/comedian Steve Martin and Dallas-resident Edie Brickell will have you laughing and singing along all night on Friday, August 1 at the Winspear Opera House. The set will also include Martin’s band the Steep Canyon Rangers.

 

Asleep At The Wheel: The group that opened for George Strait’s last concert in Dallas will play at The Kessler Theater Friday night. They’ve been in the business for nearly 40 years, producing many western-swing favorites.

 

Ringling Bro’s and Barnum & Bailey Circus: Have you heard the word? The circus is in town! Now through August 10 get your seats to see clowns, tigers, a human canon and all the circus classics at American Airlines Center.

 

Bachendorf’s Sale: Been thinking about investing in a new piece of jewelry for yourself or a loved one? Now through Saturday, August 2, one of biggest names in Dallas fine jewelry is holding a 30% off sale on all Konstantino jewels.

Target First Saturdays: The Nasher has teamed up with Target to present a day of family fun the first Saturday of every month. Activities run from 10am-2pm and admission is free.

 

Sarah McLachlan: With more than 25 years in the recording industry, McLachlan is a household name thanks to songs like “Angel” and “I Will Always Love You.” Sunday, August 3 you have the chance to experience some of her new material when she performs at the Winspear.

 

Lakewood Brewing Co. 2nd Anniversary Bash: Sunday, celebrate this local brewery turning two at one of Lakewood’s hottest spots, Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, where Lakewood Brewing sold it’s very first kegs. There will be commemorative glasses, t-shirts, and a brand new wine-barrel-aged brew to try.

 

Ansel Adams: Masterworks: The Arlington Museum of Art currently has on display 48 photographs that the artist considered to be his best work. They’re printed by Adams himself and Sunday marks the final day you can see them.

 

Oscar de la Renta: Five Decades of Style: Fashion fans will love the newest exhibit at the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Through October 5, attendees can gaze upon the memorable clothes made for first ladies Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Reagan by one of fashion’s biggest names.

 

Dallas Arboretum: This weekend will be perfect to take advantage of the plethora of children’s activities taking place at the Arboretum. From water-filled fun to animal habitats, there’s something for everyone to love. Plus, general garden admission is $1 during the month of August!

D-FW Weekend Round Up (7/24-7/27)

It’s going to be another hot weekend in D-FW! While there’s no shortage of ways to take advantage of summertime, allow us to suggest a few that you should do while you can!

 

Matthew Sontheimer: The Talley Dunn Gallery is featuring works by Sontheimer, which include collages of text, drawing, sketches, and photographs. They will be on display until August 27.

 

National Tequila Day: Today’s the day, everyone. Get your limes and salt ready because restaurants all over DFW are offering specials. Blue Mesa Grill, El Fenix, On The Border, Cantina Loredo, Urban Taco, and Wild Salsa are all getting in on the fun.

 

Richard Phillips’ Negation of the Universe: The famous bunny installation on the road to Marfa has been relocated to the Dallas Contemporary along with an indoor exhibit of Phillips’ pop culture inspired paintings, short films, and other mixed media work. This will all be on display through August 10.

 

Milk & Honey Girl’s Night Out: This beloved Dallas boutique is throwing a ladies night Thursday, July 24 with champagne, tutorials, and a 20% off discount.

 

CultureMap Summer Social: Celebrate the weekend a night early with the brains behind CultureMap Dallas. Salsa Class: Head to Klyde Warren Park’s Muse family Performance Pavilion to shake your stuff and learn some salsa with Studio 22.  Friday classes run from 6 to 7pm and take place through August 1.

 

Cirque du Soleil: Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour: A riveting fusion of visuals, dance, and music, this tour is an electrifying production presented in a rock concert format that combines the excitement and innovation of Michael Jackson’s music and choreography with Cirque du Soleil unparalleled creativity. Catch the show Friday and Saturday at American Airlines Center.

 

The Best Movie Fest Ever: The Cinemark in West Plano presents three classic films on Saturday, July 26. “Hello Dolly!” plays at 11:15am, “Moulin Rouge” at 2:20pm, and “Oklahoma!” at 5pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch three great films for one great price.

 

Cooking Classes at the Dallas Farmer’s Market: The third installation of Saturday chef demonstrations is hosted by Chef Patton Robertson of Five Sixty by Wolf Gang Puck (the restaurant at the top of Reunion Tower). This week’s theme is Korean Style Summer Grilling.

 

National Dance Day: Get your boogie on in celebration of National Dance Day at Klyde Warren Park. The fun begins Saturday with African Dance at 1:30pm.

 

Alpha Rev: Saturday night, this Austin-based band will play at the Granada Theater following the Rocketboys, Dovetail, and Levi Weaver. If you’re a fan of Coldplay and/or Imagine Dragons you should check out the show. Doors open at 7pm.

 

Austin Mahone: Named one of MTV’s Artists to Watch, this 18-year-old San Antonio native is climbing his way up the music charts. Austin Mahone has opened for Taylor Swift in the past and now he’ll headline a concert on Sunday, July 27, that will also include The Vamps, Fifth Harmony, and Shawn Mendes.

 

WWE Live: WWE returns to Dallas with a special Sunday afternoon matinee at American Airlines Center.

Flying Saucer BeerFeast 2014: Tickets go on sale today, Wednesday, July 16, for the 9th annual Flying Saucer BeerFeast, which will kick off in Fort Worth on October 11. The event will feature more than 40 brewers and 60 craft beers, live music, and food.

 

Food Truck Schedule: Click to find where your favorite meals on wheels will be all week long.

 

Tap Takeover at Goodfriend: Rabbit Hole Brewing is doing a tap takeover of the Lakewood beer and burger joint on Thursday, July 17. Special menu items and beer cocktails will also be available.

 

Wine 101 at Cork: Thursday from 7 to 9pm, get a lesson in the basics of wine including how to identify smells and tastes, how to pair wine with meals, how to read a wine label, and how to spot defects. Wine and cheese from Molto Formaggio are provided with you ticket purchase.

 

Food Truck Frenzy: Friday, July 18, you can find 8 of your favorite food trucks, including Gandolfo’s Deli, Little Greek Food Truck, What’s Da Scoop?, and Flatlanders Taco Company, at Esplanade at Fair Park from 11am to 2pm. Admission and parking are free, plus there will be live music.

 

Camp Bowie Neighborhood Bar Crawl: From 5 to 9pm on Friday you can hit some of the best neighborhood bars in Fort Worth’s Camp Bowie District. Stops include Showdown Saloon, Sarah’s Place, and Mule Pub. Rahr & Sons will provide beer along the way and Lee’s Grilled Cheese and Sauzy’s food trucks will serve up fresh food.

 

Dallas Farmer’s Market Cooking Classes: Learn from the chefs of the market every Saturday through August 9 from 11:30am to 1pm. This weekend’s demonstration will be held by Chef Jeff Moschetti of Jasper’s Restaurant and will cover summer grilling.

 

Bishop Cider Company Grand Opening: If you’re a fan of hard cider you’ll want to be a part of the inaugural keg tapping of Dallas’ newest cider company on Saturday. For the price of admission, just $22, you’ll get a branded growler, a sample flight, a slice of Zoli’s pizza, and live music.

 

Texas BBQ Week 2014: Texas Monthly and Shiner Beers are teaming up to celebrate fabulous barbecue state-wide, with 54 restaurants joining this year’s movement. Phil’s Philly Grill Opening: After 10 years of serving up delicious cheesesteaks and chicken phillies in malls across DFW, San Antonio, and Austin, the first standalone location is set to open in Prestonwood Town Center by the end of this month.

Komali Food & Art: Complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served Wednesday, July 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the first in a series of art exhibits displayed at Komali.

 

Asador’s Summer Harvest Dinner: The second of three dinners in this series takes place this Friday, July 11. Dinner starts at 6:30 pm. and will include five courses served family-style with wine and cocktails.

 

Taste of Dallas at Fair Park: This weekend, Fri. July 11 to Sun. July 13, dine on some of the best food that Dallas-area restaurants have to offer. There will be more than 70 restaurants represented, with 20 of them set up inside so you can beat the heat. There will also be live music, food trucks, and dancing.

 

Grace Clam Bake: The Fort Worth restaurant will host its first-ever clam bake featuring Chef Blain’s all-seafood summer menu on Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m.

 

Tei-An Rooftop Celebration: Celebrate Asahi Brewery’s Gold Award in the 2014 World Beer Cup with brews, hors d’oeuvres, a live DJ, and a view of Downtown Dallas from the rooftop on Saturday, July 2, from 9 to 11 p.m.

New Pastry Chef at LARK on the Park: Ann Parravano has taken a new job recreating the dessert menu at the popular restaurant near Klyde Warren Park after three years with Stephan Pyles and Stampede 66. New dishes include her signature Avocado White Chocolate Bavarian as well as the Sweet Corn Ice Cream Cake, Valrhona Dark Chocolate Frozen Soufflé (pictured above), and Butterscotch Blondie Coup.

 

New Alamo Drafthouse Location: This time next year Downtown Dallas will have its very own, two-story movie theater on the southwest corner of Cadiz St. and S. Lamar St. Get ready to enjoy great beer, great food, and great movies on eight screens in the heart of Dallas.

 

Fort Worth Chef on Reality TV: Chef and restaurant operator Tim Love has landed a hosting position on the new show “Restaurant Startup,” a reality series that pairs restaurant innovators with investors. Pitches will be made, test restaurants will be opened, and, hopefully, all of someone’s dream will come true starting tonight, July 8 at 9 p.m.

 

US Open Beer Championship: Last week, Rahr & Sons Brewing, Peticolas Brewing, and Lakewood Brewing were named to the list of Top 10 Breweries in 2014. These three D-FW breweries, along with Community Beer Company, also took home various other awards for their Texas-made creations.
