Grapefest 2014: The annual festival is back for its 28th year this Thursday, September 11 to Sunday, Sept. 14. Unique wines, fantastic finds, live entertainment, and family-friendly fun will highlight the event in Historic Downtown Grapevine.
Bourbon Month: Celebrate Bourbon month with The Second Floor at the Westin Galleria Thursday night with $8 Knob Creek Flights.
Eden Wine Dinner: Enjoy a four-course meal paired with four summer wines on Thursday night with Chef Karen Kahn.
Scardello’s How to Pair Cheese & Wine: This event only comes once a year, so you don’t want to miss it on Thursday. You’ll learn the rules behind cheese and wine pairing and why they work so well while tasting 12 cheeses and 6 wines.
2014 Dallas Chocolate Festival: The 5th annual festival will be held at Addison Conference Centre on Saturday, Sept. 13. The event showcases local and national chocolate artisans and features classes, demonstrations, and all the decadent chocolate you can image. More workshops will be held on Sunday in Trinity Groves.
Arché Harvest Party: Arché wines is hosting a grape-picking, Cabernet-sampling day with a lunch buffet on Saturday at the winery’s vineyard in the Red River Valley. It may require a little bit of a drive, but it’ll be worth it.
Dallas Observer BrewFest: The 4th annual BrewFest is being held in the all-new Shed at the Dallas Farmers Market. Head there Saturday for craft beer sampling , live music and food.
PakPao Anniversary Thai Throwdown: Sunday, Chef Jet Tila is looking to battle Dallas’ best home cook in a Pad Thai Throwdown. There will be a panel of celebrity judges and all guests will get to sample a portion of Chef Jet’s signature dish.
Food Truck Palooza: The 3rd annual Food Truck Palooza is being held this Sunday at Temple Shalom. Participants currently include The Bomb Fried Pies, The Butcher’s Son, Coolhaus, Cravetopia Bakery, Cup Cakin’, Easy Slider, Gandolfo’s NY Deli, Mad Grill, Misha’s Kitchen, Nammi, Rockin’ Rick’s, Ruthie’s Rolling Cafe, Simply Dosa, Taste of Cuba, Texas Burrito Company, and Tutta’s Pizza.
Okrapalooza: The Lot will host this year’s competition for the title of Okrapalooza Champion, which will have celebrity chefs and home cooks all competing in the same category. Sunday, attendees will get to sample the various okra dishes and sides as well as free local beer and live music. All of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Promise of Peace Community Garden.
Red Wattle Porchetta and Cocktail Dinner at Windmill Lounge: The chefs at Lucia, Mike Gibsson and Justin Holt, are serving up plates and cocktails, until they run out, on Sunday. Angels Envy Bourbon and Pilar Rum are sponsoring the event, so you know it’s all going to be delicious. A second pork-centric dinner with the two chefs will take place at Oak Cliff Social Club on Sept. 21.
Kobalt Wine Dinner at Grace: Join Kobalt’s owner and winemaker, Kevin Carriker, as he hosts a night discussing wine on Monday, Sept. 15. There will be passed canapés, Japenese Madai, smoked king salmon belly, trumpet royal mushrooms, Colorado lamb and artisan cheeses.
Bahn Shop: The first location of the new Southeat Asian restaurant is opening up on Friday in Park Cities at 5629 SMU Boulevard. The second location is set to open at the end of the month in DFW Airport Terminal D. The concept is fast-casual with a focus on the classes Vietnamese bahn mi sandwich. The company’s owner, Yum! Brands, also owns Taco Bell, KFC, etc.
2014 Caesar Salad Competition Chefs: The chefs who will compete in this year’s event were announced this week. They are Thomas Holt of Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Chad Kelly of Café Pacific, Andrea Marichich of The Second Floor, Antonio Marquez of Lazaranda Modern Kitchen & Tequila, Mark McDaniel of ReMARKable Affairs Catering, Kenny Mills of Chop House Burgers, Brandon Moore of Ocean Prime Dallas, Stan Rodrigues of Whiskey Cafe Kitchen & Bar, and Julio Peraza of Komali Contemporary Mexican Cuisine.
Luscher’s: The chef/owner of The Grape, Brian Luscher, is opening a hotdog spot in Deep Ellum that will focus on his signature “Post Oak Red Hots,’ a handmade dog that can currently only be found at local places like White Rock Local Market and the Green Grocer. Other sausages, Italian beef sandwiches, and beer will also highlight the menu at the restaurant, which is set to open by November.
Moviehouse & Eastery: Keller will officially have its own premier theater/restaurant combination beginning November 7. Think comfortable leather seats, made-from-scratch food, and all your favorite movies right in Keller Town Center.
Parliament: One of Dallas’ most beloved bartenders, Eddie “Lucky” Campbell, has opened up his very own speakeasy bar named Parliament in Uptown’s State-Thomas neighborhood.

Vickery Meadow Local Market: Launched by the minds behind White Rock Local Market, Vickey Meadow Improvement District, and Half Price Books, this brand new market will open Sept. 21 and run only on Sundays. Along with healthy produce, you’ll also be able to find arts, crafts and other local goods.
