Ebby House Fills Foster Care Void

Ebby House Fills Foster Care Void

We love the above message prominently displayed at the top of the staircase at The Ebby House. And we couldn’t agree more!

The Ebby House is an innovative transitional community for young women who have aged out of foster care located at Juliette Fowler Communities in Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood (which we also love!) The Ebby House serves young women ages 18-24 as they make the transition from foster care to living independently.

Every year, about 1,500 young Texans age out of the foster care system. Before the age of 21, many of them face severe outcomes due to lack of family and adult connections. The Ebby House seeks to reverse that trend by offering young women a home to live in and mentors to love them while they learn to become self-reliant, entrepreneurial — volunteers and mentors themselves — reflecting the values and life of our company’s founder, Ebby Halliday.

Dallas Nonprofit for Women Strengthens Local Focus

Nonprofit Approaches Future with New Name, Deepened Local Focus

The YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas, home to the Women’s Center at Ebby’s Place, recently announced its departure from the YWCA national chapter with a new name and brand – WiNGS for Women and Families. The new name reinforces the organization’s mission to eradicate poverty among Dallas women and children and stands for Women in Need of Generous Support.

“This new name will allow our organization to continue to specifically address the issues our community is facing: that Dallas has the third fastest-growing poverty rate in the country,” says Jennifer Ware, CEO of WiNGS. “We believe the best way we can combat the poverty epidemic in Dallas is through providing programming that addresses women’s biggest barriers to success.”

WiNGS programs are centered on women’s health, financial empowerment, business coaching, and parenting. Ware says the need is tremendous. In Dallas County, approximately 286,000 women and girls live in poverty.

“The mission of the WiNGS Center at Ebby’s Place is to begin changing those stats by helping women to gain financial independence,” Ware says. She adds that naming the building in honor of Ebby Halliday, the founder of Ebby Halliday Realtors and a longtime supporter, was a perfect fit for her organization.

“Hers was a beautiful and strong story,” Ware says. “She was a leader herself and brought other women along with her.”

Service to the Community

Post

Giving back to the community is a founding principle of Ebby Halliday Realtors so we’re happy to report that our Preston Plano Parkway Office and Texas Premier Title, an Ebby Halliday affiliated company, recently raised $1,216 for the Women’s Auxiliary of Children’s Medical Center Plano. The money was raised through a raffle at the offices’ annual, fun-filled Mistletoe Market featuring unique gifts, exquisite jewelry, gourmet hot cocoa, food, holiday music and more. The offices chose Children’s because Preston Plano Parkway Associate Sarah Fallin is an active member of the hospital’s Women’s Auxiliary.

Children’s Medical Center Plano extends the world-class service of the Children’sHealth system to the growing number of families north of Dallas and beyond. Its medical staff includes specialists from UT Southwestern, providing a vast base of talent and knowledge. Located at 7601 Preston Road in Plano, the campus sits on a 155-acre site with green space preserved to provide an environment of healing and tranquility for patients and families.

Adopt an Angel in Our Community

 EbbyHallidayatElementary (1)

Recently members of Ebby Halliday Realtors Corporate Office gathered for an early Thanksgiving-style lunch and to launch our annual Adopt an Angel drive benefiting Communities In Schools, Dallas Region. Staff members, many of whom have supported Ebby Halliday Elementary in South Dallas since its inception, took the opportunity to “adopt” the school’s students to ensure they have gifts of their own this holiday season.

Communities In Schools, which surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life, holds true to a couple of simple, yet important, core values:

*  Children come first

*  Education is key to success in life

These fundamental values are very much in line with the values of our founder, Ebby Halliday, and the core principles upon which our company was founded, which include service to the community.

Ebby often said, “Do something for someone every day.” A great way to do just that is to “adopt” your own angel this holiday season. To get started, visit cisdallas.org.

Thank You For Your Service

Thank You For Your Service

Today is Veterans Day, the day in which we honor those who have given us our freedom. To celebrate this important holiday, we’ve compiled some of the most meaningful quotes throughout history by veterans and for veterans:

“How important it is for us to recognize our heroes and she-roes!” – Maya Angelou

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy

“The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.” – Thucydides

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” – Elmer Davis

“The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” – Jeff Miller

From all of us at Ebby Halliday, we offer a sincere thank you to each of you who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. military.
