Woodrow Cheerleaders Support Ebby House

In lieu of purchasing garters and mums for this year’s Homecoming celebration, the cheerleaders of Dallas’ Woodrow Wilson High School chose to make a difference by making an impactful donation to one of the school’s neighbors: The Ebby House at Juliette Fowler Communities.

Not only did these thoughtful young leaders deliver a check for $400 to benefit the innovative new transitional community for young women who have aged out of foster care, they brought a vase of yellow (Ebby’s favorite color!) roses to decorate the beautiful new home.

The Ebby House, named after our founder and favorite philanthropist Ebby Halliday Acers, is home to young women ages 18-24 as they make the transition from foster care to living independently. The Ebby House offers them a home to live in and mentors to love them while they learn to become self-reliant and entrepreneurial — volunteers and mentors themselves — reflecting the values and life of Ebby Halliday.

New Ebby House Fills Foster Care Void

SONY DSC

Hundreds of North Texans gathered yesterday afternoon to see real estate legend Ebby Halliday cut the ribbon at the dedication of The Ebby House, an innovative new transitional community for young women who have aged out of foster care opening at Juliette Fowler Communities in Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood. The newly renovated building will serve young women ages 18-24 as they make the transition from foster care to living independently.

Every year, about 1,500 young Texans age out of the foster care system. Before the age of 21, many of them face severe outcomes due to lack of family and adult connections. The Ebby House program seeks to reverse that trend by offering young women a home to live in and mentors to love them while they learn to become self-reliant, entrepreneurial — volunteers and mentors themselves — reflecting the values and life of Ebby Halliday.

“Ebby and Juliette Fowler Communities believe that these traits are the hallmarks of an empowered individual for our future,” said Sabrina Porter, president & CEO of Juliette Fowler Communities.

Said Ebby, “Knowing that The Ebby House will be a place for young girls to reach their potential is just wonderful.”

We thought you might enjoy taking a peek inside this beautiful home fantastically finished by the talented people at Dwell With Dignity.
