Buying a Home is Complicated

Buying a Home is Complicated

Setting a budget, sticking to it; making an offer, financing a property once the offer is accepted; seemingly endless paperwork … let’s face it, buying a home is often a daunting process that can strip the anticipated fun and excitement away completely.

Fortunately, there’s an Ebby Halliday Realtor to guide you through the process. We’ve been helping people through the process for more than 70 years.

“It’s fun to look at all that’s changed since 1945, but what hasn’t changed is our sales associates and employees tirelessly building our brand on trust, coming through when clients need us most,” says Mary Frances Burleson, president & CEO. She adds that the goal for the company and its sales associates remains simple: to transform and elevate the home buying and selling process into the wonderful life-changing experience it can be.

“We hold homebuyers’ hands through it all, from start to finish, making it an easy, comfortable and enjoyable experience,” Burleson says. “We listen closely to their wants and needs, their worries and their fears. With more than 70 years of success in this business, we offer what no other North Texas real estate company can: a longtime culture of caring. That’s how Ebby built our company. She fostered an internal culture that attracts humble, hardworking people like herself who just plain do the hard work.”

How Do I Choose A Real Estate Agent?

post

There’s something about warmer weather and sunnier days that really gets the real estate market buzzing. If you want to join in on the fun as a buyer or seller, now is a good time to start looking for a Realtor.

This process is different for everyone, but here are some things to keep in mind:

Experience – Look to agents who have put time into their career and the neighborhoods in which they work. This can mean different things, like trusting someone who has spent years in the business or someone who grew up in the area.

Personality and Interests: – Try to do some background work on a potential agent. Many have bio pages, LinkedIn accounts, social media pages, and online reviews. All of these can be helpful, but remember that not having one or the other doesn’t have a direct correlation to how “good” a Realtor is.

Career type: Is being a Realtor the person’s full-time career? If you’re on a time schedule, you’ll want to pick someone who’s in the industry full-time.

The numbers – If you’re a buyer, don’t choose an agent just because their commission is lower. If you’re a seller, don’t choose them just because they agree with you on how much your home should be listed for. We’ll say two things to justify these points – you get what you pay for, and, in real estate, there’s no telling how much your home will really and truly sell for at the end of the day.

Age – Don’t dismiss an agent based on their age, young or old. What makes an agent the right fit for you is not often their age, but their love of their profession, dedication to you, and the points listed above.

Ebby House Fills Foster Care Void

Ebby House Fills Foster Care Void

We love the above message prominently displayed at the top of the staircase at The Ebby House. And we couldn’t agree more!

The Ebby House is an innovative transitional community for young women who have aged out of foster care located at Juliette Fowler Communities in Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood (which we also love!) The Ebby House serves young women ages 18-24 as they make the transition from foster care to living independently.

Every year, about 1,500 young Texans age out of the foster care system. Before the age of 21, many of them face severe outcomes due to lack of family and adult connections. The Ebby House seeks to reverse that trend by offering young women a home to live in and mentors to love them while they learn to become self-reliant, entrepreneurial — volunteers and mentors themselves — reflecting the values and life of our company’s founder, Ebby Halliday.

Barrera New Lakewood/Lake Highlands Sales Manager

René Barrera New Lakewood/Lake Highlands Sales Manager

Ebby Halliday Realtors has appointed René Barrera sales manager of its Lakewood/Lake Highlands Office. Mary Frances Burleson, president and chief executive officer, recently made the announcement.

“René brings extensive industry knowledge, as well as a strong desire to assist our Lakewood/Lake Highlands agents in taking their careers to the next level,” Burleson says. “A recipient of the MetroTex Association of Realtors Lois Hair Bernays Salesperson of the Year Award and Ebby Halliday’s Service to the Industry Award, René offers extensive real estate expertise and a long history of service to our industry and the East Dallas community.”

Barrera will report to Betty Misko, executive vice president and director of sales offices.

“Deeply rooted in East Dallas, René is passionate about serving clients as a fiduciary and helping make the American dream of homeownership a reality,” Misko says. “I am confident his background and sales experience will benefit the Lakewood/Lake Highlands Office in many ways.”

A native of South Texas and a graduate of Texas A&M International University, Barrera has lived in East Dallas since 2000 and been involved in real estate sales and community service in the area for approximately 15 years.

“I love the work I do and I love East Dallas,” says Barrera. “Our community is so rooted in family and tradition.”

A multimillion-dollar producer who holds a Broker’s License as well as numerous professional designations, Barrera is a past president and active member of the Kiwanis Club of White Rock. He is also active in the Knights of Columbus and his children’s school.

An enthusiastic, natural leader who is a graduate of the MetroTex Leadership Academy, Barrera says he is dedicated to supporting the Lakewood/Lake Highlands Office’s agents by sharing his extensive knowledge of negotiations and contracts and helping them build a business that is client-centric.

“I am a strong believer in creating synergy in the office,” Barrera says. “Agents can pick up the phone and I will help them. Being available to our agents, our clients and our community is my priority.”

Barrera says among the many reasons he chose Ebby Halliday is the company’s appreciation for both new-agent education and continuing education for seasoned agents. “Ebby has always been a leader in the real estate industry and in East Dallas,” he adds. “Its technology and training are second to none.”

In his spare time, Barrera enjoys an active outdoors lifestyle. He has run multiple marathons, and loves to train, whether it’s for marathons, triathlons or bike races. He can often be found speeding around White Rock Lake on his bike. Barrera also enjoys restoring his classic ’65 Plymouth Valiant. René’s family includes his wife of 13 years, Julie, and two children, Bianca, age 8, and Isaac, age 6.

“I am truly excited about my new position as sales manager of Ebby’s Lakewood/Lake Highlands Office,” Barrera says. “My door will always be open for our agents, and our valued clients will reap the benefits.”
