Happy Hill Farm Choir Spreads Holiday Cheer

Members of Ebby’s corporate office recently enjoyed a visit from the Happy Hill Farm Choir. Each year during December, the choir makes the rounds to spread holiday cheer to the farm’s corporate supporters. The multi-talented choir treated the audience at Ebby Corporate to spirited renditions of holiday songs — and even provided surprise visits from a spot-on Elvis impersonator and Santa himself.

“The Ebby corporate team always looks forward to its annual visit from the Happy Hill Choir,” says Mary Frances Burleson, president and CEO of Ebby Halliday Realtors. “Over the years, Ed Shipman, who passed away earlier this year, and his talented staff have helped so many young people grow into happy, productive adults. At Ebby Halliday, we are thrilled to be a part of that effort.”

Happy Hill Farm is a 500-acre farm that is home to North Central Texas Academy, an independent, accredited, coeducational and interdenominational college-preparatory day, boarding and international school near Granbury. Boys and girls ages 5 to 18 live, work and study at Happy Hill Farm, which accepts no federal or state funding.

Traditionally, more than 90 percent of North Central Texas Academy’s budget has come from donations within the private community from caring individuals, corporations and foundations. The Academy seeks out underserved students and provides scholarships in order that these highly motivated boys and girls receive the opportunity to learn, commit, grow, and eventually assume positions of responsibility and leadership in society.

For many years Happy Hill Farm has been near and dear to Ebby Halliday Realtors. The Ebby Halliday Library is located at Happy Hill’s academic complex.

Happy Hill Farm Founder Ed Shipman Passes Away

Happy Hill Farm Founder Passes Away

Today we remember a great man who exemplified Ebby’s motto of “Do Something for Someone Every Day” throughout his life, C. Edward Shipman, Sr.

Mr. Shipman founded Happy Hill Farm, now home to North Central Texas Academy, in 1975 and spent the next four decades changing the futures of thousands of children. It was always one of Ebby’s favorite charitable causes and one that Ebby Halliday Realtors remains committed to today.

Ed Shipman built and operated Happy Hill without state or federal funds. Initially, Happy Hill took in only troubled young people ages 4 through 18.

Said Mr. Shipman in 1986, “All the children who come here are in the midst of some kind of failure cycle. If you can turn that self-image around, you’re a long way down the line toward success.”

Happy Hill later added a day school operation and accepted international students. The name was changed to North Central Texas Academy at Happy Hill Farm. Today, Happy Hill is home to students from 17 countries and continues to change young lives for the better each and every day.

We’re proud of our association with Happy Hill Farm and encourage you to consider making a donation in honor of Ed Shipman’s remarkable life. Memorials may be made here or by mail at Happy Hill Farm, 3846 North Highway 144, Granbury, Texas, 76048.

The holiday season kicked into full gear at the Ebby Halliday Corporate Office recently as we enjoyed the sounds of the Happy Hill Farm Choir. Each year about this time, Happy Hill Founder Ed Shipman and the choir make their rounds to spread cheer to corporate supporters of the farm.
