10 Ways to Refresh and Renew This Spring

10 Ways to Refresh and Renew This Spring

When you think of springtime, brightly colored flowers, sunny days, and lush foliage likely fill your thoughts. It’s the time of year that signifies renewal – and the perfect time to tackle making over your home.

In the new spring edition of Grand Vie: Luxury in Living, Dallas-Fort Worth’s premier luxury home publication, Shay Geyer, owner and designer at IBB Design Fine Furnishings, provides some timely tips for a spring makeover of your home.

*  Greenery is the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year and the perfect nod to spring for your home’s décor.  A “fresh and zesty yellow-green,” this color can be used as an accent to bring a neutral palette to life or paired with other lively colors for a dynamic interior.

10 Ways to Refresh and Renew This Spring

*  Paint is one of the easiest ways to transform a room. Choose a happy hue that brings new life into your room and puts a smile on your face. Brighter, more-saturated hues work best as accents and shades of white offer a crisp backdrop for artwork and fabrics to steal the show.

*  Wallpaper is more of a commitment than paint, but it allows you to bring in bold patterns and cheerful color that will fill your space with happiness all year long.  Good news: Removable, peel-and-stick wallpapers are now available.

*  Add accent pillows in a bright floral pattern or botanical print to your sofa or chairs for an instant update. Butterflies, birds and cherry blossoms are other popular spring motifs that work beautifully as accents in a home.

10 Ways to Refresh and Renew This Spring

*  Punchy pastels are on trend right now. Think of ballet pinks and aquas but kicked up a notch in saturation. These colors are anything but soft and can add a cheerful accent to your space when used in accessories.

*  Drapery panels not only dress your windows but they soften a wall by layering in fabric. Choose a solid in sunny yellow or sky blue or opt for a floral pattern for a touch of springtime influence. If you’re shy about pattern and color, select a sheer fabric for drapery panels to evoke a light and airy feeling.

*  Layer in the texture. Use a grass-cloth wallpaper or a tile that emulates wood to bring the outdoors inside your home.

10 Ways to Renew and Refresh

*  Add scented candles and diffusers throughout your home. Fragrances like fresh peony, lavender thyme and gardenia will fill your rooms with the sweet smells of spring.

*  Add floral and greenery arrangements to bring a room to life. Whether fresh or faux, a floral arrangement instantly makes a room happy. When selecting a silk arrangement, the more lifelike the better. Use the arrangements on an end table, console or coffee table for a pop of color.

*  Get organized. Edit your rooms and get rid of clutter. Incorporate baskets into your bookshelves to keep things neat and tidy. Use decorative boxes on your cocktail table to store remotes and electronic devices.

How to Pamper Your Holiday Guests

How to Pamper Your Holiday Guests

In addition to showcasing the luxury listings of Ebby Halliday Realtors, the fall 2016 issue of Grand Vie: Luxury in Living magazine offers a plethora of interesting editorial content, including “Home Away from Home,” featuring advice on designing the ideal guest room from design and lifestyle expert Kathy Fielder.

How to Pamper Your Holiday Guests

“With the holiday season quickly approaching, now is the time to consider your home’s guest accommodations and what you can do to make your friends and family members feel at home — in your home,” Fielder says. “The first tip I always provide clients, family and friends about their guest rooms? ‘Spend the night there to see if you would enjoy it.’

How to Pamper Your Holiday Guests

Fielder says the key to the success of your guest bedroom design is in the planning. Each detail should be carefully considered so that you optimize the space available.

How to Pamper Your Holiday Guests

Fielder recommends creating a Pinterest board or making some sort of inspiration board. When you do, you will start to see a pattern.

“Once you have decided on modern or traditional, eclectic or transitional, you’ll be motivated to choose your color palette,” Fielder says.

Color defines and breathes life into our spaces. It appeals to our senses, and studies show that our bodies physically react to color. That being said, it makes sense to choose the colors you will use in your guest bedroom wisely.

Luxury Linens

For over a century, Pratesi linens have dressed the beds of the world’s rich and famous. From Ernest Hemingway to Elizabeth Taylor and Coco Chanel, the family owned company has built a dedicated and legendary clientele due to the impeccable quality of its linens. Today the luxury linen maker is run by the fourth generation, overseen by Federico Pratesi, with whom our colleagues at Luxury Portfolio International had the opportunity to discuss the history of the family business. The interview is part of the just-released fall/winter edition of Grand Vie: Luxury in Living, Dallas-Fort Worth’s leading luxury-home publication.

LP: Pratesi has had its fair share of high-profile clients – have you had any particularly memorable experiences with one of your well-known clients that you could share?

FP: I remember walking down Madison Avenue with my father and we were stopped by an eccentric gentleman who loved my father’s orange Casentino coat. Neither my father nor I spoke English at that time, so we didn’t understand. After a cappuccino at Sant Ambreous, we went back to our shop and happened to meet the same character, but this time we were properly introduced by our store manager. It was then we realized he was Mr. Andy Warhol, an aficionado of Pratesi. After thanking him for being a fan, my father had an identical Casentino coat with the same notched fox collar made for him. As a thank you, Mr. Warhol gifted the painting “Stardust Shoes” to our family. It still hangs in our dining room.
