Clean lines and crisp materials are the hallmarks of contemporary and modern design, and, while these design styles may not be everyone’s thing, they’re not going anywhere soon.

More and more homes, like the three shown above, are leaning toward this aesthetic. They continue to come onto the market everyday, and they never cease to take our breathe away. Even if it’s not up your alley, you’ve got to appreciate the thoughtful design and attention to detail that goes into making these homes works of contemporary & modern art.

OTD: Save On Home Repairs & Improvements

It’s inevitable, when you own a home, there’s going to be a time when repairs are needed or improvements are wanted. Whether it’s fixing a leaky toilet or replacing your roof, there are certain precautions you should take and certain information to which you should be exposed. Check out the points on this Of The Day to get started.

It depends on how handy you are, but chances are you’re going to need some advice. If it’s something small, which means different things to different people, you can always turn to the internet for help. There are tons of how-to videos and step-by-step guides on the internet. We’d suggest starting with your favorite search engine and going from there. If you do a little homework on your problem or project you’ll find peace of mind. Plus, you could discover that you can handle it on your own.

Try not to get overwhelmed. If the project is bigger, consult professionals and realize that it may to take some time to get your repair/project completed. It’s always smart to get an opinion from multiple professionals and then to spend a little more time on the internet checking out the person or team you’ve chosen. Take your time and find someone you’re comfortable with, a good relationship could mean a better price in the end. If your project can wait longer, ask your professional if they have a preferred timing and negotiate a possible discount for booking at that time.

Study up on your project by learning the lingo and typical pricing for your project by turning, again, to the internet. Moneypit.com and diynetwork.com can be very helpful resources for this. You’re less likely to get scammed if you know what you’re talking about when dealing with your professional.

Request the use of recycled or salvaged materials. If you spend some time searching home rebuilding centers you could save a good chunk of change. It depends on your project, but it’s almost always cheaper to use these materials than to buy new. If you don’t want to scrounge through a center or a salvage yard, you can still look out for sales at your home improvement store.

If you’ve taken these precautions, you’re less likely to be coerced into needlessly expensive solutions and additional fixes that your professional could suggest in order to get you to spend more money.

When you’re finished with your repair or improvement, consult this final checklist!

Of The Day: Southwest adds 15 nonstop flights from Love Field

Nonstop Love: Post—Wright Cities Announced

Today’s OTD has big news for Dallasites who love to fly Southwest, and who love to fly it out of Love Field. 5 cities will have nonstop service beginning Oct. 13, 2014:

-Baltimore/Washington (BWI)

We’re sure everyone’s heard the hype surrounding Sundance Square in Fort Worth, but, just in case you haven’t, today’s OTD will give you the lowdown. It’s “widely acknowledged as the most exciting downtown area in Texas,” comprised of 35 blocks of entertainment and shopping that “attracts millions of visitors each year.” Are you one of them? If not, you should check it out!

The square has amazing restaurants, bars, shopping, hotels, and much more. The plaza, which lies at the center of everything, is a sight to see thanks to four 80×80 foot umbrellas, a stage, and three fountains, including one with 216 jets. This 55,000-square foot space is the perfect gathering place for concerts, parties, the arts, and just about any type of public entertainment you can imagine. It’s being called “the new centerpiece of downtown Fort Worth,” and, by the looks of these pictures, there’s no question about why everyone’s so excited about it.

There’s always something going on, and thanks to two apartment complexes, you can live right in the heart of it all! To see what’s happening there this weekend, click here.
