Love Where You Live: Media Room

It was hard to choose which awesome media room to feature on Day 7 of the series, but we knew we had to pick by Sunday. Sunday is the perfect day to relax and unwind with a movie or your favorite TV show before the week begins again, and what better way to do it than in your own theater? We love the idea of curling up with friends and family in cozy chairs to be whisked away by the magic of Hollywood.

Love Where You Live: Media Room

Like we said, it was hard to choose, but in the end we went with the media room at 34 Balmoral in Richardson. It’s elegant and definitely gives off that theater feel with a big screen, sconce lighting, and an awesome painted ceiling. Did we mention the seating? It’s almost too easy to imagine reclining in those luxurious, black leather chairs.

This media room is just one great feature of this listing, which is situated on a half-acre creek lot in a gated community. The home itself has four bedrooms, 4 1/2 baths. hardwood and travertine flooring, and a three-car garage. You’re going to want to take the full tour here.

Get Your Fireplace Ready For Winter

Colder days are here to stay and it’s time to get your fireplace roaring again. Before you fill your home with the warmth and smell of a cracking fire, though, there are some precautions you should take.

1. Check the Chimney: Have you called a chimney sweep recently? Experts recommend you have your chimney cleaned once a year. A fireplace is only as good as its chimney, so make sure you have it cleaned and inspect the exterior structure to make sure there are no obvious issues there as well.

2. Open the Flue: Ever started a fire and had the room fill with smoke? If you’re new to fireplaces, you may not realize that this happens when the flue is closed. Many people close them in order to keep out small animals when their fireplaces aren’t in use. Simply look up and reach for a chain or lever to open it back up.

3. Vacuum: A quick vacuuming of the flue, smoke shelf, and the surrounding hearth is the last step to preparing for fabulous fires for many months to come.

If you’re about to be without a fireplace in the upcoming winter months, we have plenty of homes that could have you curling up by the fire in no time!

Feature We Love: French Doors

French doors are classic, beautiful, and fill rooms with light. Is there anything not to love about them? The answer is a definite no.

The special thing about these doors is that the can be opened as a pair with no obstruction between them. Whether they’re creating seamless flow for indoor/outdoor entertaining or opening up interior rooms to one another, French doors are one of our very favorite design elements.

Richardson Gets Its Own Dog Park

1237836_652565911458506_2385549648814958280_n

If you’ve been following development trends in D-FW recently, you know that dog parks have been popping up all over the place. Being “dog-friendly” seems to be the newest trend, even prompting restaurant openings entirely centered around dogs, like Mutts Cantina in uptown Dallas. White Rock Lake has its own dog park, as well, and now Richardson will have one, too!

This dog park, Richardson’s first, will be constructed on six acres under and along the President George Bush Turnpike just west of US 75. The proposed design features a central courtyard where all dogs will enter separate fenced-in areas for large, small, and sedentary dogs. Possible features include shade structures, benches, artwork and water fountains.

The City Council reviewed progress on the proposed dog park on Monday. Currently, the city is working to finalize an agreement with TxDot, which owns the land designated for the park. Construction is expected to begin this summer and be completed by the end of the year.

This project is considered one of the City’s top recreation needs and is exciting news for dog owners and outdoor enthusiasts alike!

Of The Day: Gated Community Living

On today’s OTD we’re venturing into the world of gated communities. Lucky for residents of North Texas, these communities can be found all over the area and have houses that come in all shapes and sizes. To give you a good idea of what’s out there, we’ve found examples in Frisco, Dallas, Prosper, and Richardson. Take a look!
